Aren’t these ocean wave photos incredible? Photographer David Orias writes about his work:

I do this by using long shutter speeds and camera motion to achieve this goal. I am often asked where the colors on my waves come from. I shoot mostly at dawn and the geography of the location allows higher ambient light levels before the full illumination by the sun.

Long Shutter Speeds and Camera Motion Yield Impressive Photos

Welcome to San Jose, CA

Last week, I moved to San Jose, CA. For a new job, a new life, a new everything. It was a lot of trouble to move just within not even four weeks, but it all worked out. Well, with some bumps along the road. But I am slowly getting settled after one week here. Work is great, weather is great too and people are so friendly and helpful in this city. I have a nice new place, my car arrived yesterday and it got new tires and a full detailing today. It looks (almost) brand new, ready to hit the roads in sunny California. I am still waiting for the furniture though, but hopefully the truck will arrive next week.

The apartment is top floor and has a great balcony with morning sun and view of the hills. The living room comes with a projector and there is a TV in the bedroom. It is an open layout which makes the place very bright and sunny. (The landlord may built a sliding door to separate the rooms). The bathroom has a jacuzzi and there is a laundry room and a walk in closet, with additional storage just outside the apartment door.

The kitchen is large (I can’t even reach the top shelves in the cabinets) with a full size dishwasher and stove/oven. Everything with dark blue granite counter tops and mostly stainless steel appliances. Can’t wait for my espresso machine to arrive to complete the picture.

My landlords are awesome. I didn’t wanna live in hotels anymore, so they let me move in right away and within the next day, they repainted the whole place, repaired all broken cabinets and fixed other small things. Now it looks fantastic and I am very happy to be here.

California, here I am!

This is what it looks like to shock flowers with 80,000 volts. In this odd but old photographic technique (called Kirlian photography), the object is placed over photographic film over a metal plate. When the extreme voltages are applied, the air surrounding the flower is ionized, leaving a ghostly electric image on the film. The remainder of the colorful image is hand-painted later.

Fun facts

I am moving. To California. From Boston to San Jose. Went for an interview, got an offer 3 days later, accepted the next day. New job, new life, new weather. Can’t wait. Though it is a lot to organize and a bit crazy and stressful. All this within less than two months, from first contact until I move…

Looks like I am moving soon…
